The Tatting Journey
The Tatting Journey Begins
Hello! Let's begin...
Each tatter has a story to tell: When they learned to tat, who or what they learned from, and why they pursued tatting. Each story is interesting.
I learned to tat when I was 32 years old, my second (and youngest) son had been born. I was told about a tatter named Mabel Mitchell who belonged to a Homemaker unit in Marbury, Maryland, near where I was living at the time. I sought her out. She was the second tatter I had ever met and I was determined to learn to tat with her guidance. Since she taught me shuttle tatting elbow to elbow with her I have never stopped. I love this simple knotted lace. It's easy to start and stop, no set up or take down. It's economical. A ball of thread and a couple shuttles. It fits easily in my pocket. It's delicate yet strong. It's often a conversation starter, too. I love tatting. Tatting brings the past to the present. Old techniques strewn with modern twists.
How and when did you learn? Remember the day you first started to tat? Look how far you've come!!!
